Review: Drymax Running Socks

We asked Will Craig a Northfield runner and ultimate frisbee play to give us his review of the Drymax socks her purchased recently at FIT to be TRI'd. Here's what the Carleton cross country and track alumnus had to say ...
What’s the name of product?
Drymax running socks.
What is the product designed to do? How do you use the product?
Moisture-wicking to keep feet cooler and drier. I bought one pair of the hot-weather socks to try out, I liked them so much I went back and replaced all my old running socks with these. I was getting blister problems wearing cleats for Ultimate Frisbee in the heat of the summer – I tried a pair of the medium-weight style with more padding in the heel and toe area and the blister problem stopped. Now I wear these socks for both running and ultimate.
What do you like about the product?
Cool dry feet, no blisters.
Is there anything you don’t like about the product?
The price. I have run for 25 years in socks that were mostly cotton. I had never spent more than $5 for a pair of socks. It took a step of faith to invest in healthy feet, one that has paid off.
For whom would you recommend this product?
Anyone who wears shoes for running. Or ultimate Frisbee.
What new item are you shopping for now?
I found a great long-sleeve running shirt on the clearance rack today; there were other nice fall-type shirts and I may be back for more.
Review: CRAFT proZero Extreme Base Layer

FIT to be TRI'd staffer Charlie Mahler, an all-four season runner for more than 34 years, reviewed CRAFT's proZero Extreme base layer crewneck top. Here's his take on the product ...
What’s the name of product?
The CRAFT proZero Extreme base layer crewneck top.
What is the product designed to do? How do you use the product?
CRAFT proZero Extreme base layer products – tops and long underwear – are designed to provide warmth and moisture control during fall and winter outdoor activity. I’ve used the product either underneath my cycling jersey on a cool day for riding or as wear-alone top for running.
What do you like about the product?
I like that CRAFT proZero Extreme keeps me warm and dry – exactly what it’s designed to do. Because it’s such a light-weight garment, I can use it underneath another clothing layer as well. The fabric wicks moisture away from the skin better than anything else I’ve ever worn.
Is there anything you don’t like about the product?
The tight-fitting fabric was something I had to get used to, but it’s an important aspect of CRAFT’S wicking technology – keeping the fabric on the skin wicks moisture more efficiently. I would have preferred a turtleneck to a crewneck, too, but for coldest-weather running, I’ll usually have a turtleneck garment over the CRAFT base layer anyway.
For whom would you recommend this product?
I’d recommend it for anyone who is physically active outdoors from mid-fall through early spring. I can imagine wearing it on the bike, on the run, or while Nordic skiing. I can see using it – along with a pair of the CRAFT proZero Extreme long-underwear -- while doing outdoor work in winter as well.
What new item are you shopping for now?
I’m eager to try CRAFT’S base-layer products in other weights as well. Their proWarm base-layer is designed for the coldest winter conditions and their proCool is a fabric that actually helps cool an active body in warm temperatures.
